Remember What Republican Senators Called Trump’s Conduct
As President Trump tries to take a big victory lap, remember what Republican Senators called his conduct:
Senator Collins: “Regardless, it was wrong for President Trump to mention former Vice President Biden on that phone call, and it was wrong for him to ask a foreign country to investigate a political rival.”
Senator Portman: “I have consistently said that Mr. Trump’s request for an investigation of Joe Biden and any effort to tie the release of military aid to investigations were improper and shouldn’t have happened.”
Senator Romney: “The President asked a foreign government to investigate his political rival. The President withheld vital military funds from that government to press it to do so… Accordingly, the President is guilty of an appalling abuse of the public trust.”
Senator Alexander: “It was inappropriate for the president to ask a foreign leader to investigate his political opponent and to withhold United States aid to encourage that investigation.”
Senator Sasse: “Let me be clear, Lamar speaks for lots and lots of us.”
Senator Rubio: “Just because actions meet a standard of impeachment does not mean it is in the best interest of the country to remove a president from office.”
